Jingles that live forever

Almost 9.4 crore people in India tune into radio everyday. Radio Advertising is as old as radio broadcast in itself. It was in the 1930’s and 1940’s that there was increase in the advertisements on radio as it became a common platform for mass communication. We all remember old radio jingles we still hum to. On World Radio Day we at adytude have rounded up some of our favourite jingles to create that feeling of nostalgia which we now associate with these ads.

1. Nirma

‘Dhood si Safedi’

The now iconic jingle for washing powder Nirma is etched into the memories of almost every Indian. We don’t need to watch the television ad with the young girl in a white dress dancing across the screen. You just need that one annoying friend to start with ‘Dhood si Safedi, Nirma se aai …. Sab ki Pasand Nirma’

2. Airtel

'Har ek friend zaroori hota hai'

Airtel has had many campaigns but none of them have been as catchy as the 2011 Har ek friend zaroori hota hai. The jingle caught on and suddenly everyone was not just singing it but humming it to their friends. Chai ke liye jaise toast hota hai…. Vaise har ek friend zaroori hota hai

3. Close Up

'Kya aap close-up karte hain?'

We all remember the close up ads where the pretty girl always fell for the guy at the billiards table who would laugh freely, showing off his perfect white teeth. But more than the ad, we remember the jingle which played on our radios. kya aap close-up karte hain?ya duniya se darte hain?aur penalty bharte hain?aap close-up kyon nahi karte hain?

4. Pepsi

'Be my lover bubbly' 

Our favourite fizzy drink stayed on everyone's mind after Pepsi launched the catchy, some would say flashy ad featuring lips chasing a bottle of pepsi. The jingle which came on every radio channel for months became a beloved song to sing to any drink while consuming it. Oye bubbly oye ye bubbly

5. Ponds

‘Googly woogly wooksh'

The next jingle actually made an exclusive come-back on 92.7 BigFM in 2016. Pond’s ‘googly woogly wooksh’ became a popular tune for people to hum, sing and repeat constantly, especially when trying to pinch someone's cheeks.
